Hedgehogs and bonfires

Hedgehog

Hedgehog

Don’t cook a hedgehog this bonfire night.

It’s about now that hedgehogs start to look for a cosy place to hibernate through the winter. Hedgehogs just love to hibernate under things like piles of wood but unfortunately they don’t know the story of Guy Fawkes and how we set fire to piles of wood on November 5th. So if you want to avoid cooking a poor hedgehog (and there aren’t many left to cook) please, please don’t build your bonfire until you are about to light it. If it’s already been built there is just a chance that a hedgehog is asleep under it and it will be too frightened to emerge and escape once the fire is lit. Read more about hedgehogs here.
